Santa Clarita Solar Company Offers Cheaper Electricity With No Extra Payments

Posted by:  KHTS Newsroom  in  Santa Clarita Latest NewsSCV Your Home Inside And Out June 6, 2019 – 9:30 am  21 Views

A Santa Clarita solar company is debunking the commonly-believed myth that homeowners have to make extra payments for the solar panels themselves in order to get cheaper, cleaner electricity.

“I think people get confused (and)  they think that solar means that you have this payment on top of paying the utility company, and it’s not that, ”said Mandy Rami of HomeLink Pros Solar. “It’s that what you’re paying now becomes less when you go solar… It’s cheaper than what you’re doing right now, no matter how you slice it.”

HomeLink Pros Solar Founder Mike Terry compared standard electricity to a 12-pack of soda at the grocery store, with solar acting as a 24-pack of the exact same soda, but with the same price tag.

“Here’s what everyone can agree on… You’re buying that 24-pack,” he said. “Why? Because when something is the same but costs less, people like that. It makes sense… If the utility company came to your house and said, ‘Hey, listen, we’d really like to lower your price of electricity. Can we do that?’ Nobody listening right now would say, ‘No, I like paying the higher prices.’”

Terry continued, “A lot of people have this idea that if there’s solar mixed into it, there’s got to be a catch. But what we’re really doing is lowering people’s price for electricity through the solar, and that’s all it really is.”

The Santa Clarita solar power experts are so confident that most homeowners will want to switch to solar once they understand how it works, they gave away brand new Amazon Echos to anyone who scheduled a no-obligation consultation after their appearance on KHTS Radio on May 30.

HomeLink Pros Solar staff are encouraging anyone interested in solar power to act now before harsh summer temperatures return, as the average homeowner with standard electricity pays half of their total costs for the year over the next three months because of the increase in air conditioning use.

“You will just lose money every day that you wait by paying your summer bills right now,” Rami said. “We’re getting solar installed in this area in about six weeks, so it’s super fast. We want to get people installed before your highest bills of the year.”

Santa Clarita Solar Energy Expert Discusses Upcoming Changes In Standard Electricity Rates

A Santa Clarita solar energy expert is talking about a major change coming to standard electricity rates, which is expected to charge residents based on the time of day they use their electricity.

Posted by:  KHTS Newsroom in  Santa Clarita Latest NewsSCV Your Home Inside And OutApril 16, 2019 – 12:43 pm 0 50 Views

“One of the things that we’re talking most about right now with homeowners is a change in the way Edison charges for electricity,” said Mike Terry, founder of HomeLink Solar. “It’s going to really impact people significantly where customers are going to be billed a different price for their electricity based on what time of day it is rather than just by how much they use.”

In the past, residents could make an effort to lower their electric bills by conserving the overall amount of energy that they use, but this new “time-of-use” rate structure changes things dramatically, according to Terry.

“Now everyone is going to be paying the highest rate available during the afternoons, especially during the summer when it’s hot up here in Santa Clarita,” he said. “The rate doubles at 4:00 during the summer.”

With the average resident spending 55 to 60 percent of what they pay for electricity annually during the summer months alone, Terry noted that the financial impacts of these upcoming rate plan changes are expected to be significant.

The solar energy experts at HomeLink Pros Solar can educate homeowners not only on the upcoming time-of-use plans expected to be rolled out by Edison in the near future and how these compare to using a Santa Clarita solar company as an alternative, but also on a variety of other things as well.

“We focus on the whole home, and a lot of times, what we do with a customer doesn’t involved them buying anything or signing up for anything,” Terry said. “We help them change their behaviors, we help them learn how things work.”

Save Water, Go With Solar Panels

Water is by far one of the most important resources we have on Earth, as we need it to live! Are you conscious of saving water? Do you implement practices in your day-to-day life that helps save water?

Well how about switching to solar? Yeah, you heard us right, and you heard it here: switching to solar can save water! Solar panels are usually known for their service in saving power, energy, and money, but these amazing panels also help save the environment!

Power plants take the credit for using almost half of the water consumption here in the U.S. The issue here is that many power plants use water for their power generation, but if these power plants switched to solar panels the only thing these power plants would need is the sun! Solar panels can be installed residentially or commercially, and they can be a great benefit to saving the Earth’s water supply. Being that water is not unlimited, and it is a resource that is in very high demand, we need to conserve as much as we possibly can, and solar panels can be of good help.

Now, you may know that is takes water to create solar panels. Yes, it is true, water is used for virtually everything, but solar panels use very small amounts of water, and the water that is used by solar panel manufacturing is recycled! Solar energy can also help purify our water. By switching to solar energy the power plants-as mentioned above-can purify large amounts of water faster than they could if they were using conventional power. Solar can also be used as away to free up residential and commercial space, so that owners and workers may refocus their efforts on saving other resources like water.

Solar panel companies are bigger than ever before, and with companies like HomeLink Pros around you’ll be able to switch to solar with the clear knowledge of the benefits to solar energy, and how installed solar panels are going to benefit, not only your home and your pocket, but the environment as well! Home link provides a number of services such as: home solar energy solutions that are customized to you, automation and security services, and natural gas services. So what do you say? Are you ready to make the solar switch today?

Santa Clarita Solar Company Offering Tips On How To Reduce Energy Use At Home

Posted by: KHTS Newsroom in Santa Clarita Latest NewsSCV Your Home Inside And Out April 9, 2019 – 10:00 am 0 178 Views

A Santa Clarita solar company is offering the community four tips on how to reduce energy use at home as electricity bills inevitably skyrocket during the hotter summer months.

“That’s one of the things that we try to do to separate ourselves from other companies out there, is not just give you cheaper electricity, but also help you learn how to use less,” said Mandy Rami of HomeLink Pros Solar. “There’s a lot of things that people are doing that they don’t realize is really using more energy than necessary.”

More than 50 percent of total electricity use in the months of July, August and September come from air conditioners, with increased usage costs even more “painful” because standard electricity rates are usually higher in the summer, according to Rami.

“There’s some simple things that you can do to save that money right away,” Rami said. “One of them would be where your thermostat is actually located.”

If the thermostat is near a window or in a room that doesn’t get used often, Rami noted that the temperature reading it’s getting is irrelevant to the comfort level of the home.

Re-locating the thermostat to a room that is used often, away from the heat of any windows, can help create a more accurate and relevant temperature reading, potentially cutting down on air conditioner use.

In addition, setting the thermostat to a temperature it will likely never achieve in the hot summer months causes the air conditioner to run constantly, racking up energy usage costs, according to Rami.

“If you put it at a more reasonable temperature, then the air conditioner will actually click on and off throughout the day,” she said. “It’s recommended that you leave your thermostat at 78 degrees and put ceiling fans in the rooms that you hang out in.”

The 78-degree setting on the air conditioner will go much further when combined with the use of an inexpensive ceiling fan, which Rami noted can run for an entire month nonstop for the same electricity cost as running an air conditioner for just 10 hours.

Another tip to reduce unnecessary energy usage is to lower the number of hours pool pumps are set to run, according to Rami.

“Your pool is usually set to clean and filter more hours than what’s really necessary,” she said. “Your pool pump is probably set right now to clean for six to eight hours, and you could probably get away (with) doing it in three to six hours.”

Rami recommends starting out setting the filter to three hours, and then adding an hour as needed depending on the state of the pool.

“If you’re not seeing your pool get green or slimy, it’s got plenty of time to filter,” Rami said.

Rami’s last tip on how to reduce energy use at home is for electric car users who need to charge their vehicles at their house.

“A few things that you can do with that would be to plug your car in at night, and then making sure that if you’re going to charge a regular vehicle at home, you’re going to want to upgrade your electric plug to a 220 plug,” Rami said.

The more traditional 110 plug typically takes twice as long to charge and uses more energy than a 220 plug, Rami added.

While these tips can help residents lower their electricity use at home, switching over to solar energy with HomeLink Pros Solar is recommended for those interested in drastically cutting their monthly costs for nothing out-of-pocket.

Santa Clarita Solar Company Gives Residents The Opportunity To Go Solar For Nothing Out Of Pocket

The family-owned Santa Clarita solar company HomeLink Pros Solar is giving residents the chance to switch over to solar power at their home for absolutely nothing out of pocket.

Solar Energy Consultant Emily Winchester noted that a decade ago, going solar required a large lump sum payment, but that this isn’t the case today.

“People know what solar is, but sometimes they have a misconception of the steps to take to go solar,” Winchester explained. “You can go solar for zero out-of-pocket. You don’t pay anything — we’re going to do solar for you, you’re going to have a cheaper electricity bill… It’s a no-brainer. It just makes sense.”

Winchester continued that standard electricity bills are expected to increase in the near future, but most residents might not be aware of coming changes.

“When people go, ‘Oh, well I don’t know, my bill is not that bad,’ my stomach kind of turns a little bit because there’s so many changes coming,” Winchester said. “I fear for people getting this bill coming up in the next couple months, and it’s going to be about double the price, and they just aren’t aware.”

HomeLink Pros Solar is a family-owned business that was started by a team of Santa Clarita residents who previously worked for some of the largest solar companies in the country, according to Winchester.

“We started this company because we knew we would have the best customer service,” she said. “We are SCV residents and we thrive on getting referrals and doing the best so we get more referrals… These are our family and friends and neighbors.”

HomeLink Pros Solar is set to participate in the 2019 KHTS Home and Garden Show at Central Park on April 27-28, where they will be meeting residents, answering questions and handing out information on Santa Clarita solar panels to the community.

“I really feel excited about this because I have gone with my family for so many years, and they always have the funnest things to do and see and learn about,” Winchester said. “So to have this opportunity with this solar company is so exciting. It’s very fulfilling and I just can’t wait.”

SCE time of use rates to impact 8,700 in Santa Clarita

Southern California Edison will begin transitioning its 4.3 million residential customers to Time of Use rate plans on March 1. Southern California Edison photo

A newly developed Southern California Edison rate plan could help you save money. You simply have to be willing to let dinner dishes sit in the sink until 8 or 9 p.m. or put off laundry until the next morning. As part of a California Public Utilities Commission initiative to shift statewide usage habits, SCE will soon begin transitioning about 10 percent of its 4.3 million residential customers to Time-of-Use (TOU) plans designed to reward power usage during non-peak periods when the state’s electric grid is especially flush with solar capacity. Beginning March 1, SCE will shift about 400,000 of its customers – including 8,736 in Santa Clarita, according to the company – to TOU plans, with a full transition expected by 2021. All customers who were randomly selected for the initial wave of TOU pricing were first notified via a mailed postcard in December, followed by additional mailed notifications in January and again this month. “We were very careful to structure the rates,” Andre Ramirez, a senior advisor on rates for SCE, told The Signal on Friday. “We don’t want customers to have what we call a bill shock. We definitely don’t want them to have a bad experience on Time-of-Use.” The TOU premise is simple: Pricing is based not only on rate of use but also on time of day and season. Rates would, predictably, be lower during off-peak hours – such as late night and early morning – and higher during traditionally active periods – such as late afternoon and early evening. SCE will transition its first 400,000 customers to TOU plans that define on-peak times as either 4-9 p.m. or 5-8 p.m. weekdays. Pacific Gas and Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric are also following the CPUC’s lead and rolling out TOU rate structures for residential customers.SCE TOU Notification Letter Example While Ramirez cautioned that SCE customers could see “slightly higher” bills during the hottest months of the year, typically June through September, he said TOU rates in the off months would likely ensure little change in consumers’ bills over the course of a year. “Edison’s not making any more money on this,” he stressed. “The goal is customer satisfaction,” added Ramirez, noting that SCE will offer up to a year of bill protection to TOU participants, crediting them the difference if a standard tiered plan would have been cheaper. In a Q&A posted to the SCE website in November, Jessica Lim, the company’s principal manager of marketing, said TOU rates would be especially beneficial for customers who could “shift some of their electricity uses to take advantage of lower-priced … time periods” but wouldn’t satisfy all customers. “If a customer uses more electricity during other time periods, or isn’t able to shift at least some of their usage to these time periods, then the Standard Residential (“tiered”) rate plan, or a different TOU rate plan, might be more beneficial,” she said. “SCE will provide custom bill analysis reports to help customers choose the rate plan that best suits their lifestyle.” In addition to delaying simple household chores until off-peak hours, Ramirez said SCE customers who are willing to adjust use of air conditioning and monitor lights, televisions and other devices, could especially benefit from TOU plans. Through Friday, Ramirez said a “very small” percentage of randomly selected customers had opted out of TOU plans in favor of a tiered rate. The company’s tiered rate structure isn’t being phased out, officials said, and TOU rates are not mandatory. “Our customers can always make their own choices,” Ramirez said. “We want customers to feel they’re on the right rate.” Added SCE spokesman Ron Gales, “If somebody reads this and they want to try a TOU rate, they can call and sign up,” SCE spokesman Ron Gales said. “They don’t need to be randomly selected.” SCE’s customer support number is 1-800-655-4555.
